Toronto’s Hip Hotel Scene Set to Expand with Announced W Hotel
Marriott International is set to launch the W Hotels’ bold design, signature Whatever/Whenever® service and innovative programming to Toronto for the first time, underscoring growing demand for luxury in Canada’s largest city.
The 9-story, 255-room property will be located in Toronto’s fashionable Yorkville neighbourhood where it will be surrounded by high-end boutiques, galleries and design studios, chic cafés, polished bars and some of the city’s most inventive fine-dining restaurants. The $40 million property is slated to open in Summer 2020.
“We are applying a unique, vibrant sensibility to the upcoming W Toronto, one that has not been seen before in Toronto,” said Paul Cahill, Area Vice President, Eastern Canada for Marriott International. “This is a strategic location for the brand, and we foresee it welcoming international business and leisure travellers, but also becoming a destination for urban thrill-seekers.”
In addition to the standard restaurants, coffee shops and state-of-the-art fitness centre, when it opens, W Toronto will feature 4,800 square feet of unique meeting space.
The announcement of W Hotel’s expansion underscores Marriott’s growing luxury portfolio in Canada, where the company now has seven luxury properties with additional hotel projects expected to be announced by year-end.
In 2019 Toronto was named the top meeting destination in Canada by Cvent, and is in the top ten meetings destinations, per CWT. Canada’s largest urban centre, it is a centre of excellence in digital technologies, life sciences and cleantech, drawing conferences in these sectors from around the globe.
