Micro Climat(e) Offers a Dose of Winter this Summer
The Magic of Winter Comes Alive in Québec City this Summer
Delegates of any of the conferences being hosted in Québec City this summer are in for a wintery treat with the introduction of Micro Climat(e), a 26-by-9-foot container, refrigerated to 4 to 8⁰C and decked out in all the trappings of snow season, offering visitors a feel for the exotic appeal of Québec winters. Ice sculptures, a mini ice hotel, a ski lift, Québec décor, and videos of popular seasonal activities, not to mention occasional visits by Bonhomme Carnaval showcase the magic of winter in Québec.
A collaboration between Québec City Tourism and Ateliers du Carnival de Québec, the wintery escape is welcome break from recent soaring temperatures. Located next to the Dufferin Terrace near the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac the exhibit is open from July 3 – September 3, 2018 and is aimed at growing Québec City’s winter visitation.
"Winter tourism has real potential, and as an international destination, we need to be innovative in getting tourists from outside Québec to come back and visit us during the cold season," says Québec City Mayor Régis Labeaume.
One market that does travel to Québec City year-round is the meetings, conventions and incentive market. The city, often cited as being a slice of Europe (but without the jetlag) is a natural draw for conferences dedicated to Life Sciences and Artificial Intelligence (amongst others) due to its wealth of subject-matter experts, research and innovation centres and global businesses headquartered here.
